A group with topics (a forum) is a handy way to keep many threads in one place: “News”, “Jobs”, “Analytics”, “Off-topic”. A common task is to auto forward Telegram channel posts into those topics or, the other way round, to pull the messages of one topic into a channel.

Use cases #

  • Several company channels → one staff group, with a separate topic for each channel.
  • Someone else’s community forum → only the “Announcements” topic in your channel.
  • The “Jobs” topic of one group → the “Work” topic of another group.

Posting to a topic #

A pipeline recipient is an account plus a chat. If the chat is a forum, pick a topic too: by default messages go to “General”. A user account shows the list of topics automatically; for a bot, enter the topic number manually — it’s the last number in the topic link (t.me/c/1234567890/42 → 42).

To route sources into different topics, create one pipeline for each “source → topic” pair. Pipelines are free, so having many of them costs nothing.

Reading from a topic #

A source can be a forum as well: the pipeline reads either one topic or the whole forum. To read someone else’s forum, you need a user account that is a member of the group; a bot can only read groups it has been added to. For choosing an account, see userbot or bot.

Edits, replies and order #

  • Messages are posted to each chat in the same order they appeared in the source.
  • A reply to a message in the source becomes a reply to its copy.
  • Edits and deletions are carried over in “Copy” mode — just like in a channel mirror.

Filtering by topic #

One feed often mixes different subjects. An “Only if text contains #job” filter in the “channel → ‘Work’ topic” pipeline and a “Skip if text contains #job” filter in the “channel → ‘News’ topic” pipeline will split one channel’s posts between two topics.
